Howard’s Creative Process

Testimonial

“Howard Minett is developing as a conceptual artist. He is searching for a visual vocabulary to express the ideas that are the basis of his art explorations. Howard’s art works exist in the space of conceptual art, the tradition in which the visual product is not the central concern, the ideas are paramount. Howard is exploring ways to clearly convey his ideas which by their nature are abstract. Howard is exploring the trajectory of personal roles in society, work, environment, and legacy. He has also explored issues of nation, time management, workload commitments, work/life balance. These ideas can been seen to be informed by his work as an accountant, and the issues accountants deal with on a regular basis related to cycles of life of his clients as well as his own life experiences. Howard can also be inspired by the intersection of these ideas with the visual evidence some of them make in the world, like shadows cast on a wall, changing over time, capturing this visual demarcation of time in photographs, capturing not the object but the shadow.”

Introduction

Welcome to the creative area of my website. I am excited to have a virtual gallery to showcase my creativity.

Previously I presented my art work in Gallery 96 shows @Factory163 in Stratford, Ontario. Typically, though, folks haven’t understood my art work; I think that is because it is different. Hopefully that will change, as this virtual medium affords the opportunity to add some written explanatory material. The art work is still different, but with any luck, maybe it will be more understandable.

I don’t hold myself out to be an artist, per se. Ultimately, the intent has been to complement my professional practice, by creating images to inspire action. However, I recognize that you, the viewer, may need a bit of a nudge to make the connection…

Charting the course…

“In mynd I see wind” (the Canadian flag) and “Hangin’ my shingle…” were presented together in Gallery 96 Significant Spaces show in 2015. My significant space is in Canada and lays between Perspective in formation – my creative process, and Perspective Information – my financial information assurance practice. More than a play on words, this is my reality. I strive to align two significantly different passions along a successful career path. Charting the course… is an extension of my alignment process. It is crucial with any business plan, as it is with my business plan, to make the connection between the passion driving action, and the action driving revenue. These images show how I went about it.

Studio 31BThree of my creative objectives are to create art that is accessible, inter-active and affordable.  To date accessibility has been a bit of issue. However, each individual piece is thought provoking, hands-on tactile and reasonably priced. For example, a Canadian Flipbook costs $5.00 plus G or H or QST. Click on the Buy Now button to make the connection…  Alternatively, visit Studio 31B @Factory163, on King Street in Stratford, Ontario.  My studio houses a number of individual art works that are aimed at capturing aspects of nature’s spirit. In addition, I have several installation works in progress that are aimed at helping humanity out of nature’s way.

Logo and branding – putting the pieces together

The 6th Totem

A Canadian CPA with a unique difference, I hoped to capture my two distinct passions in a new logo when launching my on-line presence.  In addition to my own workings, I asked Stratford artist, Carla Coles, to assist with the process by creating an image that combined the influence of Perspective in formation (i.e. my creative process) with Perspective Information (i.e. financial statements, the end result of the accounting process).  However, my totem logo withstood the test of time. First created in 2004, the totem logo was inspired by Caucasian Totems No. 2 which is situated in Confederation Park, next to Gallery Stratford.

Vision and legacy – a 500 year plan

Vision and legacy

Growing up in north eastern British Columbia I was inspired, almost daily, by the majestic view of snow-tipped Rockies, sixty miles or so to the north west. It is this view of snow-tipped Rockies that inspires me to follow my path: to encourage collective, positive action on the environment and ecology today, in order to afford our collective descendants the same view tomorrow, and in the distant future. My vision and legacy statements are as simple as that.
